Despite the myriad of models, there are electric guitar parts that are common to all. In this article, we will describe the function of each one of them and the elements that compose them, so let’s start
The neck is composed of a longitudinal piece of wood. Its main function is to support the fretboard and the strings.
It is housed in the blade and composed of six pegs, one per string, and its function is to change the tension of the strings. It is one of the parts of the electric guitar involved in the tuning. Each pin has a rotating pole where each string is wound.
It is a piece of wood fixed on the neck and where the frets are inserted.
They are transversal metal bars distributed in the neck. It is one of the parts of the electric guitar that influences the quality. When we press a string on a concrete fret, it plays a note. In some spaces between the frets there are inlays for visual aid when we play.
The body is the most characteristic part since it defines the shape of the guitar. It is formed by a block of solid wood, in which are housed all the electronic devices and the wiring. Being the largest part, it is the one that produces more resonance, therefore, it influences the sound of the guitar.
The bridge is the other point of attachment of the strings together with the headstocks. On it are supported the strings. The movable bridges have a bar through which a much used effect is produced in the solos of Rock and Heavy Metal. According to its mobility we have 3 types of bridges i.e. fixed, mobile and floating.
- The fixed bridge has no mobility. The fixing of the strings is achieved through a bar located behind the bridge.
- The mobile bridge allows mobility in one direction. It has mobility in the sense of loosening the strings.
- The floating bridge (Floyd Rose) allows mobility in both directions, loosening and tightening of the strings. This bridge has castors called micro-tuners to be able to readjust after locking the nut.
