Kevlar Kayak or Carbon Kayak

Kevlar and carbon are the materials with which the traditional way of manufacturing of the kayaks is still in practice. The laminates are superimposed on lamina of carbon fibers and kevlar is saturated with resins. Once the resins gets dried, the layers are bonded together. The hull and deck of the kayak are worked separately and then are joined with the two parts by a joint.

Advantages of a Kevlar Carbon Kayak

They are extremely light.
They are very stiff.
They have more resistant than fiberglass.
They weigh up to 10 kg which is less than a kayak made of polyethylene material.
Kayaks of this material are used to compete since they are very light.
It breaks easily than a plastic kayak but it can also be repaired with much ease.
They are the elite among the kayaks.

Disadvantages

They are priced quite high because of the high cost of materials used in their making. You may pay up to €1000 or even more.
The material is very delicate and does not endure if you drag it on sand or touch the bottom of the river.

Fiberglass Kayaks

They are built just like the material of carbon-kevlar, still traditionally with sheets of fibers. In this case, sheets of fiberglass are used which are saturated with polyester resin.

Advantages

This material is cheaper than carbon and makes rigid product.
They weigh less than a kayak of polyethylene, but more than of carbon.
Considering the price, it is a solution between polyethylene and kevlar-carbon.

Disadvantages

The kayak of fiberglass breaks easier than a kayak of polyethylene.

The manufacturers often offer the same model in different materials, so just choose the one that suits your rudiments. Fiberglass or carbon-kevlar are very light and elegant. If you attach importance to weight, these will be your kayaks. However, fiberglass kayaks are more delicate when bottoming out.
